The Assistive Resources Centre

ARCOxford and Cherwell Valley College’s Assistive Resources Centre offers a friendly and supportive service to students with disabilities. This includes hidden disabilities such as dyslexia. The Centre is situated on the ground floor of Brent building (BG 11) at the Oxford Campus of OCVC. Click here to view a map of the campus.

It provides the following:

• Needs Evaluation for students applying for Higher Education who wish to apply for the Disabled Students Allowance. This service is available for College and non-College students who have been referred by their Local Education Authority.

• Access to assistive technology for students with disabilities who are enrolled on a course at OCVC.

Needs Evaluations

The Assistive Resources Centre (ARC) is a DSA-QAG registered centre and a member of the National Network of Assessment Centres (NNAC). ARC is a provider of needs assessments for students entering or who are already in the Higher Education sector. We have professional, trained assessors and assistive technology training is available.
We offer advice and support to students with disabilities who intend to go on to Higher Education applying for the Disabled Students' Allowance from their Local Education Authority. This grant can provide extra support and equipment that will help students to overcome their difficulties to succeed on their chosen courses.

In order to apply for the grant, students must have evidence of their disability and have their needs evaluated by a trained assessor. A Needs Evaluation is a face-to-face discussion between the learner and the assessor, where the areas of difficulty and support needs are identified. The Needs Evaluation is written up as a report and submitted to the student's Local Education Authority. For more information about the Disabled Students Allowance click here.
