Rycotewood Furniture Centre
|
The Rycotewood Centre has an international reputation as a centre of excellence in innovative furniture design and restoration. Rycotewood was founded in the 1930s in Thame and for the last seventy years has support students in the transition from learning to the workplace. This still holds true today; the team, many of whom are actively participating as designer makers have much experience in inspiring, guiding and preparing students for the furniture industry. |

In September 2004 the department moved to the Oxford City Campus to a refurbished professionally equip range of workshops and studios. Industrial liaison is at the heart of course delivery. The area has strong links with companies such as Ercol, Hands of Wycombe, Harrods, Jonathan Rose and Benchmark Furniture. Within our higher education courses students are encouraged to undertake placements and experience the workplace first hand. Staffs are active members of The Furniture Makers Company, British Antique Restorers Association and the Furniture and Furnishings National Training Organisation, part of PROSKILLS. Students in the area exhibit both locally and nationally at a range of events including New Designers at the Business Design Centre, London. Awards are also offered by NADFAS (National Association of Decorative Fine Arts Society. In addition to our Foundation Degree and final year BA (Hons) in Furniture Design, both validated by De Montfort University, we offer a range of short qualifications for the designer and restorer alike. Please feel free to contact us and arrange a visit to the centre, we would be delighted to show you round and discuss career paths with you. |
