Alex Sharper, a local Motorsport fanatic and OCVC Performance Engineering student chose to study his course at OCVC owing to his passion for Motorsport.
Having always wanted to make it his career, Alex was impressed with OCVC’s connections with the F1 world, “it has great links with both teams and motor sports suppliers.”

Alex was also impressed by the teaching of the up-to-date skills demanded by racing teams, such as the manufacture of components from composites.

“The staff at OCVC are very experienced and very passionate about Motorsport” said Alex, “several of them have worked in leading F1 and sports car teams.” He found their enthusiasm transferred excellently to the students – “In my case I initially did not always want to work hard” he says, “but I was won over by my tutors and quickly learnt the work ethic which is so vital to success in a racing team as well as at College!”

Alex also completed a well balanced education at OCVC as his course included a lot of maths, science and computer and CAD / CAM training, as well as learning many key skills which have proved really valuable to both racing technicians and drivers.

“Not only has my AVCE in motor sports engineering opened up for me the field of technical careers in motor sport” concludes Alex, “but I have become a better racing driver as a result.” He has found that now he is able to do set-ups and detailed adjustments by himself, he can better understand what is happening when he drives his kart or car on track.
